Angling Trust Youth National Championships 2020 Report
Saturday 10th October 2020, Packington Somers, Meriden, 60 fished. 10 teams of 6 of up and coming anglers between the ages of 16 and 20 fished this years Angling Trust Youth Championships 2020 match at Packington Somers.
This match was postponed from June at the height of the Covid pandemic and had to run be in line with tight Covid restrictions which meant an on line draw the night before, anglers going straight to their pegs upon arrival at the fishery and no presentations or results ceremony. Heavy rain in the lead up to the match and a big drop in temperature overnight meant this was a struggle for most, with most fish being caught in the latter stages of the match. Conditions on the day didn’t help either with a cold wind and showers making tackle presentation very difficult.
Worksop & District AA made it a double Individual Gold honors for the day as Alfie Keys followed Matthew Mollart (Junior Champion) in taking the Individual Youth Champion 2020 title, Alfie weighed 26.900Kg from peg 7 on Little Gearys where he caught carp and F1’s on bread fished on the straight lead. At the next peg 8, Samual Claydon (Sensas Datum 360) joined in on the action and weighed 21.825Kg for the runner up spot and 3rd place went to Adam Tollitt (Rive Fishermania Black) with 18.075Kg from peg 2 on Willow.
On the team front Sensas Datum 360 (43pts) were crowned Angling Trust Youth Team Champions after a close fought battle with Rive Fishermania Black (42pts) which saw only 1 point separating the 2 teams and Worksop & District claimed 3rd spot with 39pts.
